Rosso 'Why? Not!' Edgar Brutler 2020

The Red 'Why? Not!' by Edgar Brutler is an easy label in its approach and juicy in its taste, perfect if you are in the mood for a relaxing red wine. The Romanian winery Edgar Brutler was only founded in 2018, although the Brutler family has been involved in wine growing for several generations. It was only with young Edgar, fresh from studying oenology in Germany, that this winery began to label and market its wine internationally. The main concept behind their production is the idea that wine should be a free expression, far from schemes and conventions, in harmony with nature and the land.

Edgar Brutler 'Why? Not!' red is made from a composite blend of Blaufränkisch, Portugieser, Welschriesling, Feteasca Regală, Merlot and other unidentified vines, from 40-year-old vines bred on sandy-loamy soils in the Beltiug area of Transylvania. After destemming, the different grapes are piled together in open vats where alcoholic fermentation occurs spontaneously without temperature control, accompanied by brief contact between the must and the skins. The mass then undergoes rapid maturation in oak barrels and is finally bottled without undergoing any filtration.

Edgar Brutler's Red 'Why? Not!' expresses a garnet red colour. On the nose, fruity hints of raspberry, cherry and strawberry overlap, supported by pleasant earthy echoes of mushrooms. Easy and light on the palate, characterised by juicy freshness, very delicate tannins and an intensely fruity finish. An atypical red wine, in several aspects similar to a white wine, and therefore best served chilled. Try it with a board of fresh cold cuts.
