Siepi Castello di Fonterutoli - Mazzei 2015

The Siepi by Castello di Fonterutoli is one of those great Tuscan red wines that have always made grace and pride in one of the most important wine regions of the world. Already known in Etruscan and Roman times, the Castello di Fonterutoli is now owned by the Mazzei family. We are in the territory of Castellina in Chianti, in the heart of the Val d'Elsa and the Chianti Classico, in an old country village that is based around a fortified castle. The Hedges was born in the homonymous vineyard located on the side facing the Val d'Elsa, at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level, with exposure to the South, South-West. Here the soil is rich in clay, sandstone and limestone; a micro-zone with absolutely distinctive than the other for quality performance. The assembly of Sangiovese and Merlot makes Siepi really elegant and soft. 14 days of maceration for Merlot, a few more for the Sangiovese and aged in French oak barrels for 16-18 months make it complex.
